Without proper funding and resources, domestic violence victims suffer enormous consequences and are often left with no alternative other than returning to their abusers or becoming homeless.
Your donation supports our organization being able to expand our services to offer more victims and survivors of domestic violence with safety, support & recovery assistance, connnection with services and hopefully in the future, with affordable transitional housing to help rebuild shattered lives. We will also be offering programs to build awareness of the complexities of domestic violence in communities across Upper Montgomery County and local communities.

Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. It includes physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, and emotional abuse. It does not discriminate and it can affect anyone, regardless of income, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion.
In 2015, Montgomery County had the 4th highest rate of domestic violence in Maryland, with 3,044 domestic related crimes reported. Domestic violence crimes in Montgomery County have increased 38% since 2014 and continue to rise.
When victims take the difficult step to reach out for help, many are in life-threatening situations and must be able to find immediate safety and support.
Opening New Doors Foundation, Inc. aims to offer crucial support, shelter, and services to victims located in Upper Montgomery County, Maryland.
Opening New Doors Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Domestic Violence Program that has served 5 victims/survivors of domestic violence within 1 month of opening up to offer services.
Founder Talia Gimeno, LCSW-C is a bilingual licensed clinical social worker and a survivor of domestic violence. She has 10 years of post Masters degree experience in working with victims who suffer from depression, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and victims attempting to leave abusive relationships.
Our mission is to help victims or survivors successfully and safely escape domestic violence situations, or to escape human trafficking. We will provide a comprehensive network of support and safety for those escaping abuse, with the ultimate goal of helping them reach self-sufficiency.

To be eligible for income tax charitable deduction, the donor is responsible for determining the value for an item if the fair market value is $5,000 or less. If the item is greater than $5,000 the donor is responsible for obtaining an independent qualified appraisal for the item.
- FUNDRAISERS. We are currently seeking a fundraiser to help us plan fundraising events and strategies. If you have previous experience with fundraising and may be interested please contact us.
- LARGE BUILDING USE. If you have a large building that can hold 4+ families and can be any land or suitable building that you are willing to donate for our cause, this could be a large tax deduction and absolutely huge to helping us get up and running.
- GRANTWRITER. Looking for an experienced grantwriter.
- TRADESPEOPLE/PROJECT MANAGER. f you are interested in volunteering your time to help make this project a success we are seeking any tradesperson, and/or Project Manager.
- PROFESSIONAL SERVICES. We are in need of numerous professional services. Nothing is too big or small to make a difference.
- EMPLOY SURVIVORS. Seeking employers who may be willing to employ survivors once they are in a better situation and able to start working. We will collaborate in order to find a good fit for your business.
- VEHICLE DONATIONS. We will eventually be seeking a donated larger sized vehicle ideally a van or minivan. We will also be seeking additional cars to be donated to help a survivor become self sufficient.
